An important herb used in CHinese medicine, Scutellaria baarbata is reputed to offer many benefits. It's native to South Central China where it can be found along rice paddy fields, streams and grasslands. Starting in late spring deep purple buds appear which open to small hooded and lipped tubular flowers. The helmet-shaped blooms each have a distinct white splotch on their lower lip line up like little soldiers along the upright stems.
